Happy Miami drumming for 2014

It has been a while from last post. Miami Drums had entered a hiatus mode for the last couple months which we’re trying to recover from. Hopefully you never stopped drumming.
There is an update on Delou’s on going classes schedule for 2014. They are hosting Wednesday classes until January 15th at the Little Haiti cultural center:

Aboubacar Sylla grew up in a Griot (oral historian) musical family and all their family members are musicians and singers. Abou has been playing from a very young age. He is a master drummer of many styles including Djembe, Djun-Djun, Krin (slit log drum), Bote, and many others as well as mastering the Balafon (West African xylophone) that includes a vast knowledge of the cultural, sociological and physical history of West Africa. He is a very accomplished musician and performer, just having finished a 5 year tour with Les Ballets Africains the premier West African ballet from Guinea. Abou resides in Austin Texas where he perfects his art form by teaching, performing and giving back to his community.

The Inagural African Diaspora festival miami this weekend.
Delou presents this weekend for the first time:
The Inagural African Diaspora festival at Little Haiti Cultural Center 212-260 NE 59 Terr, Miami 305-960-2969. There will be a marketplace and a children’s village.
There are fees for each class/workshop/performance – call 305-978-3866 for fee info and other questions.
Each drum class cost $15 at the door but you can buy all classes as a package.

This weekend be sure to check out the Virginia Key drum circle. Next Sunday at 4020 Virginia Beach Drive. Pass the toll of Key Biscayne, the entrance is across the avenue of the Aquarium. Show your drum at the gate for complementary access. Starts between 2:00 and 3:00PM and ends after 6:00PM
Drum church this Sunday morning from 10 to 12 at AD Barnes Park in Miami, 3401 SW 72 Avenue – northeast corner of Bird Rd and 72 Ave. All places have limited seating, so you may want to bring your own.

Bagua drum circle – Drum instruction
Tomorrow is Bagua’s drum circle. This a recent drum circle that has been growing steadily through out the months. Nice garden behind the store. If weather is bad, drum circle transforms into a more intimate indoor music jam.

New Saturday Djembe class – Happy 4th of July
You might remember Matthew Hill’s video from last year. He just came back from almost a year in Africa and he’s about to start teaching every Saturday for the next six weeks at: 5533 La Gorce Dr. Miami Beach, FL at 11 Am – All levels welcome. Class cost $15.
I’ve taken classes with him at FIU and I can say he’s a great teacher. No only teaches but empowers you to learn and play better.
