Next Full Moon for 2014 – August 10th , 2014

Full moon drum circle party is commonly held between 85st and 79th St. That’s on the wonderful sands of Miami beach, around Collins Ave. Serious drummers attend to the Full moon eve, since less people is aware of the previous day celebration. Both days, Full moon and full moon eve are filled with music (and people) playing and dancing.
Beware that last time police disrupted drum activities very early on. Many people use this opportunity to drink (which is prohibited) and use some other substances (also prohibited) on the occasion. Drum circle people try to stay away from all this, since their main intention is to have fun and a monthly day to play with fellow drummers.
Since then both events start earlier to avoid police intervention and angry neighbors [8:30 – 9:00 PM]

Update from Mark…

at Collins & 85th (or somewhere thereabouts).

I plan enter through the park gate at 85th before sunset (sunset is around 8PM) while it is still open and hope that I’ll be able to use that park gate when I leave around 11 or 12.

Police and park security are turning this into an adventure. I know one guy who got arrested for an outstanding warrant on a traffic ticket that he had paid long ago, another who got arrested for peeing in the bushes, and that’s just what has happened to the people I know. There are also reports about the circle is ending up in different places, anywhere from 75th to 85th. Some people found it last month, and some didn’t. Good luck, everyone (and don’t give the cops a hard time – you won’t win that one).

want keep informed drum circle info ..

  2. mtg says:

Don’t know much about the full moon drum circle on Miami Beach. My 16 year old daughter wants to go with friends. Can anyone tell me how safe are they?

  3. Diego W says:

Mtg, I’ve attended quite a few drum circles at the beach. They’re quite safe IMHO, but that’s because I’m playing the whole time. I guess my advice would be to go by yourself and be the judge on how safe they’re.

    Lawrence,
I post a lot of drum circles in the area.
You can check the site often [I even got a feed if you like] or you can also get into one of the many newsletters about drum circles in South Florida.

    Regards to both of you

  4. Jean says:

    Anyone going tonight?

  5. Joe says:

I would say do not have your 16 year old daughter attend. This is not intended as a high school event.

  6. Lia says:

when is the next drumm circle? What is the location…the same? Thanks

  7. Rose Mary says:

How do I get on the newsletter distribution? My boyfriend is a palo drummer from NY and wants to know where he can play down here…
    Thanks

  8. Diego A says:

    Hi Rose Mary,
I don’t have a newsletter set-up at the site. I’d suggest you sing in to the MiamiDrums Yahoo! Group.
Check out the link on the left side of this page.
    Regards

  9. mari says:

    whens the next drum circle?

  10. Bonnet says:

I stopped by 85th and Collins on Sat June 30th around 10:00PM, and I didn’t see or hear any drummer’s there. Same rusult when I went on the beach. Did I get the date/location wrong?

  11. Roly says:

When is the next drum at Miami beach ? Is always the first night of full moon ? Thanks

  12. Michelle says:

Does this month’s circle take place on the 28th? I’m having a hard time finding consistent lunar calendars.

  13. Mark says:

    Michelle,
many calendars show the full moon dates according to Greenwich Mean Time, not local time here in Miami. To get the full moon date according to Miami local time, go to http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/MiamiDrum/links and select the “Old Farmers Almanac” link

  14. Zarifa says:

What is the proper procedure, when on the beach after hours?

  15. Carolina says:

Is there a drum circle tonight, tuesday, aug.28???

  16. Kara says:

MTG, I woud’nt recomend letting your daughter go alone. They are fun and safe, however there are some people attending that are smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. Now let me say, I have attended quite a few and I have never once been offered anything. So IMHO I would say just go with her and her friends to chaperone. But be prepared for a very fun time!

  17. cuinn says:

hey went on mission to night was in the wrong place but how do i keep posted about you and the moon thanks

  18. AristaRisingMoon says:

I’d like to bring a group out to join your group in the drumming circles full moon eve. I have previously attended on my own. The group is the SCEA Spiritual Conscious Evolutional Awareness Gathering. There are about 30 of us. I’m not sure how many would be interested but I’d like to post it in my meeting tonight if you don’t mind for the 25th.

  19. Yander says:

Hey how ya’ll doing? I wanted to ask a question because I dont know what happened this month. They Celebrated the drum circle full moon 3 straight days in a row. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. But none of them were as good as the one last month or the month before. Was is because of the rain?? I should think that they should really organize this because I am a huge fan of the Miami Beach Drum Circle and I go every month.

    Thanks,
    Yander Delgado

  20. Paula says:

any one know aomwthing about the same celebration (fullmoon drums) but in south miami beach…..at the boardwalk, 17 th street and collins avenue?
    please somebody confirm and advice

  21. Mark Richards says:

Much to-do about the Miami Beach Full Moon Drum Circle location and the behavior of the authorities.

Here (see the link near the end of this message) is a poll that we can use to come up with a location for the December Full Moon events. Until things settle down, each one of us can use it to see the entire group’s site preference. To vote in the poll, choose where you would hold the event if it were up to you under the current circumstances. You can email me any other locations that you might like so that I can include in the poll for next month.

You may have to join the Miami Beach Full Moon Drum Circle Yahoo! Group to participate. This is an open discussion group; but you can opt not to get emails and still participate in and view the poll; and, Members’ email addresses are not available to anyone for any reason.

You can change your vote anytime, and the poll result will be available until the Full Moon Night. You can check the poll before you head out to the drum circle on Saturday or Sunday to see where everyone else is heading.

    THESE ARE THE LOCATION CHOICES:
o on the beach at 85th Street – free parking – beautiful location – recent
increase in police & security harassement
o on the beach at 75th Street – free parking – beautiful location – recent
increase in police & security harassement
o on the beach at 22nd Street – meter parking before midnight – not as
beautiful as 75th or 85th; but still nice
o in the beach park between 9th & 10th Street on Ocean Drive – parking can be
complicated (I park and take a cab when I go to South Beach) – more crowd
    interaction, not a sea-sand-sky vibe

To vote, please visit the following web page:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MiamiBeachFullMoonDrumCircle/surveys?id=2622039

Note: Please do not reply to this message. Poll votes are
not collected via email. To vote, you must go to the Yahoo! Groups
    web site listed above.

  23. Monica says:

    Hey guys,
First off just want to thank everyone whos been going to the last couple drum circles, all of you have made the experience amazing, even though our fun has been hampered by the appearance of undercover cops and the eventual police harrasment. I still have yet to be bothered by the cops themselves, i think its just a matter of how we react to them, and how certain crowds behave themselves. The full moons 2 days away and i was wondering if we came up with a final location for this months drum circle.

    Blessed be!!

  24. Leandro says:

    hey guys!

I was there with some friends playing berimbau, let me know if you guys liked it so I can take it every drum circle. I had a great time. thx to all of you sharing that positive vibe

  25. Sam says:

leandro: How did you get in? We went there around 12, cops were all over the place and very aggresive saying the party was over for good since they receive too many complaints about neighbors?

Why can’t we use the public beach? Why can’t we go to a beach not so close to condos so we are alowed?

please let me know if theres a party tonight, where and when. thanks a lot

  26. Besouro says:

Awsome drum cicrle last night everybody, me, leandro, tubarao, and dodoi are definetly brining more berimbaus

  27. Leandro says:

My fire poi friends are gonna try and make it.
This spot worked out OK last month. No worries till asked to leave @12:00.
Scattered showers early eve, then clear’n up and good.
I’ll be scout’n this spot for a few moments of RA tonight and full moon.

Lots go’n on the rest of the week too.

  44. Rhythm Anarchy says:

After get’n fired up a bit watch’n some previous jpeg movies and slide shows early eve’n, we located a circle of three to six players players, few dancers and some watchers at 75th’ ‘n collins. ….. Guess this was bout ten???-eleven??:00pm
The light show was somthin that can’t be easily described. The moon on the eve of full would light up the xxl thunder clouds that were fully charged. The clouds would cover up the moon and after get’n a bit darker………. POW …………… the arteries of the cloud would flash at those who were watching.
As I’m play’n my head gets disconnected from my shoulders to watch for the light show as I play.
There were a few that I have played with before there, and I met a few more new that I could play with again.
Around 12:00 some fire was lit up and spun. After no swat teams were called, we fired some more.
Between the light show in the sky, the fire spin’n and rhythms, I hav’ta give this one, 8.75 RA moments

Dark Thirty = 1/2 hour after dark to 11:59pm. Beach closes @ 12:00. I leave when or before I’m asked to go. June full moon eve went on to 1:30am, then I saw the flashlights and packed up before I was asked to leave.
