Sedu ba [Hope I spell it correctly] is hosting a drum circle at Naomi’s Garden - starts at 7 Pm.

Sunday afternoon, at 2 on FIU Campus Ben Isaac is teaching at Delou african class instead of Matthew hill. Matthew is going to Africa for a 9 month journey, you can check out the interview with him at this page I wish him all the best in this and all his journeys.

After that there’s a community drum circle at Oak Park. Starts at 4 PM

We meet in a church, have a spiritually-flavored drum circle, and therefore have a zero tolerance drug and alcohol scene. We want to create a non-threatening safe space, a family atmosphere. We believe that the music on its own creates a healing, natural high, so artificial ingredients are not needed in this environment. All instruments are welcome. People show up with djembes, doumbeks, congas,
etc. Latin rhythms may predominate, but all rhythms are welcome.

Don’t forget that Matthew Hill is having his Sunday Class at the FIU North Campus - not sure if time is still 3 PM.
I’ve also been told about the class/drum circle at the African Heritage center Saturday’s event - from 3pm to 6pm. I’m going to check it out this weekend!

Matthew Hill - Delou african ensemble musical director video interview

Matthew Hill is the musical director of Delou african ensemble. Delou was created by Njeri Plato-Dioubate in 1987. One of its main objectives was to portrait and preserver African culture and music, traditional and contemporary in this side of the Atlantic.

Matthew took some time after extensive playing that afternoon to do this interview. He talks about his musical background, some of his colleagues and teachers, performing as a djembe player as well as his experience in Africa.
